Will IPL 2020 take place or get cancelled altogether in 2020? This question has been in the minds of every cricket fanatic ever since the cash-rich league got postponed twice this year due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The global virus’ spread has shell shocked the whole world and all major cricketing activities have been put on hold since then. Nonetheless, Team India’s limited-overs specialist and Delhi Capitals’ (DC) opener Shikhar Dhawan remains optimistic regarding IPL 2020’s future amid all odds against it due to the pandemic.
Dhawan told Angelo Mathews during an Instagram live session, “Hopefully, the IPL will happen. I always think in a positive manner. It will be really good if the tournament goes ahead… the security of everyone will need to be taken care of. If it happens, it will be really good as it brings a lot of positivity. It’s very important that some sports return to improve the environment and mood… it will have a huge impact if the IPL returns.”
Dhawan further opined on the prospect of playing behind closed doors without spectators. “Obviously, we are going to miss playing in front of a huge crowd if tournaments take place behind closed doors, the fans bring their own charm and aura, but at the same time, it would be an opportunity as we have been sitting at our homes for two months now,” the swashbuckling left-hander stated.
Given the various issues which have arisen in all parts of the world due to the global crisis, the whole world is in a state of shock and depression with so much negativity. If IPL 2020 takes place with strict measures, it might add some positivity and something to look forward to; especially for the cricketing fraternity.
