India are scheduled to tour Down Under for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in December this year. The much-awaited Test series will witness some of the best in the business go up against each other in what is expected to be a blockbuster contest between two of the top sides in world cricket. India and Australia share a great rivalry on the cricket pitch and have produced some epic matches over the years.
Australia head coach Justin Langer is excited by the prospect of watching Indian captain Virat Kohli go up against Pat Cummins, who is one of the best pacers in the longest format of the game at the moment, and Jasprit Bumrah faceoff against the likes of Steve Smith and David Warner, who will be back after missing the last home series against India which the hosts lost 2-1.
Langer said the Kohli vs Cummins and Bumrah vs Smith/Warner battles are a ‘tantalising prospect for any cricket lover’. Langer also rated the Kohli-led Indian side of 2018 which scripted history by beating Australia in their own backyard as one of the toughest sides he has ever seen in his career.
“The entire team has grown as a unit including David and Steve. It was a difficult summer 18 months ago against a very impressive side which I still rate as one of the toughest I have seen. We learnt some lessons along the way,” Langer told Sportstar.
“I always enjoy seeing the best of the best going against each other and in a series like Australia versus India, there will be many great players who will put on a show. Virat (Kohli) versus Pat Cummins, Steve Smith and David Warner vs Jasprit (Bumrah). It’s a tantalising prospect for any cricket lover,” he added.
