Ganguly in home quarantine after brother contracts COVID-19

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday went into home quarantine after his elder brother and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint secretary Snehasish Ganguly tested positive for Covid-19.

Snehasish, a former Bengal first-class player, has been admitted to the Belle Vue hospital here after his COVID report came positive.

“He was suffering from fever for the last few days and his test report came positive today. He’s been admitted to Belle Vue Hospital,” a CAB official said.

“The reports arrived late in the evening. As per health protocols, even Sourav will have to be in home quarantine for a stipulated period,” a source close to the BCCI President added.

Snehasish had shifted to their ancestral house, where Sourav is based, in Behala after his wife and in-laws at his Mominpur residence tested positive for the dreaded virus.

The news means that all members of his family, including Sourav, will be kept under observation/self-isolation on the grounds of COVID suspicion. Snehasish had reportedly shifted to the family’s ancestral house, where Sourav Ganguly is based, in Behala after several people at the former’s Mominpur residence contracted the virus.

Sourav had celebrated his birthday on July 8 with all his family members. Now, he is expected to undergo isolation for 10-days.

The rumours of Snehashish contracting the virus had surfaced last month too but he denied being infected by the virus back then.

“I am perfectly healthy and am doing office every day. The news doing rounds about my illness is baseless and is not expected in these trying times,” Snehasish had said through a statement released by the CAB on June 20. “Hope that after this, it will firmly put a lid on such untrue sensational news that are doing rounds.”
