All-rounder Stuart Binny had scripted history in an ODI match against Bangladesh in Dhaka in 2014 when he wreaked havoc with the ball on the hosts to register the best-ever figures by an Indian bowler in the history of ODIs. Binny picked up a stellar six-wicket haul in the game to finish with unbelievable figures of 6/4 in his 4.4 overs to hand India a remarkable win.
Recalling the dream spell, Binny said he still gets goosebumps when he watches the highlights of the game where he single-handedly won India the match under the captaincy of Suresh Raina as MS Dhoni had been rested.
“I still get goosebumps when I watch that video to be honest. You can’t ask for better days than that. It was a game where we didn’t get too many runs on the board and we were under the pump from ball one. It was a wicket that wasn’t bad but we were on and off the field because of rain,” Stuart Binny recalled during an interaction with SportsKeeda.
“The covers came on and off and on and off. There was a little moisture in the surface and it suited my bowling. I could not have asked for a better wicket on that day to suit my bowling,” he added.
Binny further revealed that he was congratulated by none other than the legendary Anil Kumble after the match as he had broken the former leg-spinner’s 21-year-old record. Kumble held the record for best figures by an Indian bowler in ODIs when he took 6/12 in 6.1 overs against West Indies in 1993. Kumble sent a text message to Binny wishing him for his success.
“To break Anil Bhai’s record was something special,” Binny said. “I had no idea that the record was broken until I went to the presentation. I actually got a text message from him saying ‘Congratulations! Really happy to see someone from Karnataka break the record,” said Binny.
