The fans of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will have to wait for another day for the final schedule. Brijesh Patel, IPL’s Chairman, has confirmed that the fixtures will be released on September 6. Multiple reports had suggested that the board would release the fixtures on Friday (September 4) but the announcement was delayed.
Patel quashed all the speculations and confirmed that fixtures will be out tomorrow. “The schedule will be released tomorrow,” he told ANI. As per a report in The Times of India, the board was forced the delay the announcement as it was looking to prepare a flexible schedule. The flexible schedule would have seen the board to make late changes in fixtures if needed.
The schedule was expected to be out in the last week of August but the announcement was delayed again after 13 personnel of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp tested positive for COVID-19. The Yellow Army kicked off the preparations for IPL 2020 on Friday.
Nothing has been confirmed so far but CSK are likely to take on Mumbai Indians on the first day of the season. As per the rules, the defending champions face the runner-up of the previous season in the season-opener. Though it wasn’t the case in 2019 as Chennai Super Kings faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening game. Going by the rules, they should have played Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The final of the tournament is confirmed to be played on November 10. It will be for the first time that the final will be played on a weekday. The matches will be played across three venues: Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai.
