Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was approached by the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises but will not be able to participate in IPL 2020 as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) denied him the No-Objection Certificate (NOC).
According to reports, IPL franchises Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders had approached Mustafizur for the upcoming season in the UAE.
Australia pacer James Pattinson replaced Sri Lanka legend Lasith Malinga in the Mumbai Indians squad, but KKR is yet to find a replacement for Harry Gurney.
BCB has said that it refused the NOC since Bangladesh are set to tour Sri Lanka for a three-match Test series scheduled to start on October 24, at a time when IPL will be played in the UAE.
“Yes, he (Mustafizur) had an offer from the IPL but we did not give him NOC as we have the Sri Lanka tour coming up,” BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan was quoted as saying by cricbuzz.
Rahman has not represented Bangladesh in Test matches since March 2019 but he took 20 wickets in the ICC World Cup 2019, after which he has only played ODIs and T20Is for Bangladesh.
Mustafizur, who was not part of IPL 2019, had last turned out for Mumbai Indians in 2018. Bangladesh pacer had snapped seven wickets in seven matches that season, at an average of 32.85 and an economy rate of 8.36.
Mustafizur had returned from IPL 2018 with an injury, after which BCB president Nazmul Hassan had said he won’t be allowed any more NOCs to participate in overseas leagues.
