Speaking in RCB’s Bold Diaries, Virat Kohli shared his thoughts on the upcoming season and said that since the memorable season in 2016, where RCB reached the final of the tournament, he is once again feeling satisfied with a balanced squad for the tournament.
“It’s an exciting time, as I said, to be honest, that 2016 season which we loved to be a part of, it was such a memorable season. Since then, to be honest, this is the most balanced I have felt about the squad and as a system where we are heading. It’s been very well taken care of and now it’s upto us to execute those things on the field,” Kohli said.
Kohli himself had a sensational IPL season in 2016 – where he hammered four centuries and single-handedly took his side into the final. Up against David Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad, chasing a challenging 208-run total, Kohli (54 off 35) and Chris Gayle (76 off 38) got RCB off to a brilliant start by adding 114 runs for the opening stand in 10.3 overs. But after the openers were back in the hut, wickets started falling at regular intervals and RCB fell short by 8 runs as SRH lifted their maiden title.
RCB have reached the final on three occasions and are yet to lift the title. RCB will kick off their IPL 2020 campaign with a match against SRH on September 21 to be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. IPL 2020 will be played in the UAE from September 19 to November 10.
