Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has decided to come out of retirement and play for Punjab in the domestic circuit. He has already written a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) requesting its permission to make a comeback in the domestic circuit. Yuvraj would be mentoring and guiding the youngsters in the Punjab side and intends to play T20 cricket with the state side in the upcoming tournaments.
Yuvraj had quit all forms of cricket in June 2019 after remaining out of the Indian team for quite a while. He also obtained NOC from BCCI and took part in a couple of overseas leagues like Global T20 League Canada and Abu Dhabi T10 League. However, the left-hander has now decided to have a final shot at winning trophies for Punjab and helping nurture the next generation of cricketers in the state.
Opening up on his desire to return, Yuvraj said winning trophies for Punjab and guiding the talent in the team has been his biggest motivation. He also stated that a cricketer cannot play the game all his life but T20 is a format which can be played till the age of 45 if one is willing to keep going.
“I and Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh) made every effort to help Punjab win a title. It was hard work for both of us but things did not work. I was also not motivated to continue playing and that prompted me to retire. Now I think one can make an earnest effort to help Punjab win the T20 title. The team has some awesome talent and I am looking forward to contributing,” Yuvraj was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
“You can’t play cricket all your life but T20 is a brand you can play till 45. I will give myself one season and take a call. I will be a coach, mentor and a player. I want to do it for Punjab. It has given me so much,” the former all-rounder added.
