Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined Rs. 12 lakh after the match officials found that he had maintained a slow over-rate in the 1st innings of the 6th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) against Kings XI Punjab on Thursday. The match was being played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Virat Kohli had a forgettable evening in Dubai as RCB were handed one of the biggest defeats – a 97-run hammering by KXIP. In fact, KL Rahul, with the maiden hundred of IPL 2020, outscored RCB who were bundled out for 109.
Rahul hit 132, the highest score by an Indian in the IPL, in just 69 balls as the former finalists posted 206 on the board in 20 overs. Virat Kohli dropped KL Rahul twice during the KXIP innings. Rahul made full use of the extra opportunities as he shifted gears in the last 2 overs wherein KXIP picked up 49 runs.
While chasing, RCB never looked comfortable. Captain Kohli departed after scoring just one run in five balls. Mr. 360 AB de Villers tried for some period but didn’t get enough support from the other end. He scored an 18-ball 28 before giving his wicket to former RCB leg-spinner Murugan Ashwin. Washington Sundar was the highest run-scorer (30) for RCB in this match.
They were bowled out for 109 in 17 overs, resulting in a 97-run defeat. This was Punjab’s second-biggest win in this competition.
Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh as it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences.
