The surge of COVID-19 in India is the rising concern for the entire nation. With more than 61 lakh cases India at the second spot worldwide when it comes to the COVID tally. Despite the worsened coronavirus situation in the country, Sourav Ganguly, BCCI president has reiterated the BCCI’s priority to hosting the planned England series in India next year.

There are also the speculations that BCCI may shift England’s tour to Sri Lanka or UAE but the board president has now made it clear the first priority will always be hosting it in India.

“The priority is to make this (series against England) happen in India,” Ganguly said. “We will try to make this happen on Indian grounds. The advantage in the UAE is they have three stadiums (Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai).”

Due to the surge of the pandemic, the Indian domestic season is also affected. Ganguly said the board will continue to work on that and try to make it start as soon as possible.

“We are monitoring it,” Ganguly said. “We want to have our domestic season. We have all the combinations, situations ready in our minds. We will try and make it happen as much as we can.”

“Everything is fluid. It’s been hard for the last six months to keep everything in order. You want your cricket to happen. You want lives to get back to normal, there are players involved. But you also want to have a close look at the COVID situation,” he added.

England is supposed to travel India for five Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is, which will be played between January and March next year.
