Former New Zealand fast bowler Simon Doull heaped praise on young Kolkata Knight Riders opener Shubman Gill, who starred with the bat once again to help the team beat Rajasthan Royals in Match 12 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 on Wednesday.
Shubman Gill scored 47 off 34 balls to help KKR post 174 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. The fast bowlers then stood up and put up a stellar performance to restrict the Royals to 137 for 9 to win the match by 37 runs.
Noticing Gill’s rise so far, Doull backed the Punjab batsman to lead an IPL team in two years’ time and suggested him to learn as much as he can from KKR seniors Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan.
“I won’t be surprised if we see him leading an IPL side two years down the line at the ripe age of 22-23. I think he should spend a lot of time with Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan and pick their brains.
“He also has Brendon McCullum, one of the most innovative captains in the last 7-9 years. I think he can learn a lot if he is around these guys,” Doull told Cricbuzz.
KKR started their IPL 2020 campaign with a crushing defeat against defending champions Mumbai Indians. But they roared back to form, beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets in Abu Dhabi before handing RR their first loss of the season to jump to 2nd in the IPL 2020 points table.
