IPL Betting: 4 people arrested by CCB in Bengaluru

Four persons were arrested on Tuesday for betting on IPL in a raid conducted by Central Crime Branch, Bengaluru, at three locations, news agency ANI reported. Over Rs 4.91 lakh and six mobile phones were seized in the raid, Sandeep Patil, Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) said.

A little over a couple of weeks into the new IPL season and a player has already reported an approach of corruption to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). What’s rather astonishing is that even though the players are living in bio-secure environments and aren’t meeting people from outside their bubble, such approaches are being made.

BCCI ACU chief Ajit Singh confirmed the same to news agency PTI. “Yes (a player has reported approach),” Singh, the former DGP of Rajasthan Police said while also admitting that the work to track him down is ongoing.

“We are tracking him. It will take some time,” he said, when asked if the alleged corruptor or “person of Interest” has been nabbed.

Since arriving in UAE, the BCCI has ensured to make all the players — overseas, Indian capped and uncapped — aware about the possible corruption approaches that can be made and the mediums through which they could be approached. The board has also given the players training through certain anti-corruption classes.

“The player who was approached immediately sensed that something was fishy. He had a suspicion and he immediately shared his concerns with the ACU,” a BCCI official privy to the development told PTI on the condition of anonymity. “Every player, even those who have come from the U-19s, are well aware about each and every anti-corruption protocol.”

The IPL 2020 season started on September 19 and will last till November 10.
