Iyer reveals why Pant did not feature against Mumbai Indians

Delhi Capitals suffered their second defeat of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 season at the hands of defending champions Mumbai Indians at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Asked to chase down the target of 163 runs, Mumbai Indians rode on half-centuries from opener Quinton de Kock (53) and Suryakumar Yadav (53) to secure a comfortable win and go on top of the IPL points table.

Delhi Capitals dearly missed the presence of left-hand wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who missed the game due to a hamstring injury. Pant had picked up a niggle while playing in Delhi’s last match against Rajasthan Royals. In his absence, Ajinkya Rahane made his debut for the Delhi Capitals after missing six games in a row for the franchise.

“We have no idea (on Rishabh’s availability), the doctor said he has to rest for a week and hope he comes back really strong,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation ceremony, when asked about Pant’s injury.

Delhi Capitals will play their next game against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday (October 14). Pant is unlikely to feature in the game, as per Iyer’s comments if his comeback takes a week. The left-hander might also miss Delhi Capitals’ game against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday (September 17).
