On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for Team India’s tour of Australia, and like always, there have been several talking points regarding the selection process.
The most common one among them is the non-inclusion of Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. But since that’s because of the hamstring injury the batsman has developed during IPL 2020, most fans are expecting him to be back in the squad once he recovers.
While most fans and former cricketers applauded the inclusion of young talents such as Varun Chakravarthy and Navdeep Saini, many also hit out at the BCCI for giving cold shoulders to other consistent performers such as Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel.
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh was one of those to express their displeasure at the exclusion of the Mumbai Indians right-handed batsman.
“Don’t know what else Suryakumar Yadav needs to do get picked in the Team India.. he has been performing every ipl and Ranji season..different people different rules I guess @BCCI I request all the selectors to see his records,” Harbhajan Singh tweeted.
The off-spinner also requested Team India selectors to see Suryakumar’s records, and questioned the selection process suggesting that there seem to be different rules for different players.
Suryakumar Yadav has played some crucial innings for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. The batsman has scored 283 runs at an average of 31.44 and a strike-rate of 150. He has hit two half-centuries and has a high score of 79 not out in IPL 2020.
