Former Sri Lanka and Kings XI Punjab captain Kumar Sangakkara expressed concerns about Delhi Capitals’ campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2020 and was even reluctant to take their name when asked about his top four teams in the competition who would make it to the playoffs.
Delhi Capitals peaked in the first-half of IPL 2020 and had even occupied the top spot on the points table for quite some time before the issues started to creep up and the players no longer displayed the form they had in the beginning.
As a result, DC have dropped down to 3rd with 7 wins from 12 games, the last three of which ended in big defeats for Shreyas Iyer’s side. DC will lock horns with defending champions Mumbai Indians, who have already qualified for the knockouts, in a couple of hours from now in Dubai.
Talking about the issues in the side, Sangakkara said DC are over-reliant on their top-four batsmen which is why they have struggled in the last few games.
“Well, Mumbai is quite secure, I think RCB will make it there (play-offs) as well. I am suddenly worried about Delhi Capitals.
“In the last few games, they’re batting hasn’t really looked as strong as it should’ve. It’s highly dependent on their top order, none of the other batsmen have got the quick runs,” Sangakkara said on Star Sports’ show Cricket Live.
So, they could be the fourth one, but I would not be too sure. I would say, Kings XI Punjab will make it there as well. And the fourth one, I am just struggling to make a concrete prediction on the fourth one. Sorry!”.
