Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their stellar run in IPL 2020 as they thrashed Delhi Capitals (DC) by nine wickets at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Saturday. Mumbai Indians restricted Delhi Capitals on a low-key total of 110 runs before chasing it down comfortably with 34 balls to spare and remain on the top of the points table.
In captain Rohit Sharma’s absence, Ishan Kishan has been promoted up the order as an opener and has done well to keep his spot. The young left-hander continued his purple patch against Delhi Capitals as he plundered a sensational knock of 72 runs off just 47 balls on a tricky wicket in Dubai which had slowed down significantly.
On the same pitch where Delhi Capitals batsmen were struggling to find the momentum with the bat and failed to score big, Kishan made a mockery of the DC bowling attack. Opening the batting with Quinton de Kock, Kishan took the attack against DC bowlers right from the start. He slammed 8 fours and 3 sixes in his quickfire 72.
The left-hander played some big shots around the park and took the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Praveen Dubey to the cleaners. At the post-match presentation ceremony, Kishan, who was awarded the Man of the Match was asked about the secret behind his powerful sixes. The 22-year-old credited his mother and her good food as the reason behind his strength to clear the ropes with ease.
“I think credit goes to my mom for the good food she gives me. Even I am surprised sometimes that how am I able to hit sixes like this. But It all depends on the practice sessions, and how you train I wanted to keep my shape and hit sixes,” Kishan said at the post-match presentation.
With the win, Mumbai Indians continue to remain at the top spot on the table with 18 points from 14 matches.
