Pakistan captain Babar Azam is facing a difficult situation as an FIR is set to be filed against him after an additional session court in Lahore ordered the police to file a case over a sexual harassment complaint.
Babar Azam faced allegations of sexual harassment in November 2020 by a woman named Hamiza Mukhtar from Lahore. In her complaint, the Paksitani woman had alleged that Babar had sexual exploited her after making false promises of marriage. The woman also said Babar has forced her to undergo aborting.
According to the Press Trust of India, the petitioner had annexed her medical documents as evidence in the court. The additional sessions judge, Noman Muhammad Naeem, after hearing arguments of the lawyers of both the sides, directed the SHO of Naseerabad police station to immediately register the FIR against Babar.
The judge remarked that the allegations were disturbing and serious to warrant a full investigation.
Hamiza later confirmed that the FIR has been lodged at the Naseerabad police station.
Earlier, another additional sessions judge, Abid Raza had ordered Babar and his family not to harass Hamiza, who had alleged that she was getting threat calls to withdraw the case. The woman alleged that when she tried to register an FIR against the cricketer at the Naseerabad Police Station, Babar forced her to withdraw the application on marriage re-assurance.
Babar is gearing up for Pakistan’s home series against South Africa. The Pakistan skipper, who missed the New Zealand series with a fractured thumb despite travelling with the squad, will be key as Pakistan take on South Africa in 2 Tests and 3 T20Is from January 26 to February 14.
