2nd Test: Disciplined England set new record for highest total without an extra

The England cricket team on Sunday set a new record for the highest total without giving away an extra run in the ongoing second Test against India at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

India posted 329 runs on the board with England not conceding a single run through an extra. The hosts in contrast has conceded 52 runs in extras in both innings in the last Test match.

The previous best was managed by Pakistan when they conceded 328 runs against India without conceding an extra run in a Test match in Lahore in 1954/55.

Meanwhile, India got bowled out for 329 runs with its last 4 wickets falling for just 29 runs on Day 2 of the Chennai Test.

Rohit Sharma top-scored for the hosts with 161 runs while Ajinkya Rahane (67) and Rishabh Pant (58) took a wicket each but the rest failed to fire on a difficult pitch at Chepauk.

Moeen Ali was the pick of the England bowlers, claiming 4-128, while Olly Stone returned 3-47 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

England are 1-0 up in the four-Test series having won the opening match by 227 runs.
