England limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan revealed that fast bowler Jofra Archer’s elbow injury has worsened and it needs medical attention once again.
Archer had missed the last Test match against India due to the injury but had made a comeback for the team in the T20I series that concluded on Saturday with hosts India beating England 3-2.
India and England will now play a three-match ODI series starting March 23 and Eoin Morgan on Saturday admitted that Archer’s availability is not known as yet and the medical team is having a look into his injury.
“Not quite sure yet (about Archer’s availability for the ODIs). We’re going to wait until tonight and tomorrow to see how Jofra has pulled up. He clearly had a progressive injury that has become worse and does need attention.
“It’ll be over to our medical team and hopefully the decision that Jofra comes to will be the best for us in the long term,” Morgan said in a video conference.
With IPL 2021 slated to begin on April 9, the elbow injury to the pacer has come as bad news for Rajasthan Royals.
Archer was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the 2020 edition and it is expected that he might miss the first half of the tournament this year due to the injury.
England have a hectic calendar this year with the New Zealand arriving for a Test series at home and then the T20 World Cup in India and the Ashes Down Under later in the year, and therefore will not want to rush Archer’s recovery.
