Chennai Super Kings (CSK) superstar Suresh Raina made a brilliant comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with an impressive fifty against Delhi Capitals (DC) in his team’s opening game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. Raina had skipped IPL 2020 last year due to personal reasons and played his first game for CSK since 2019 on Saturday.
Raina scored a well-paced fifty and earned praise from many including the legendary Sunil Gavaskar for his batting exploits against DC. Gavaskar praised the veteran batsman, who scored 54 off 36 balls laced with 3 fours and 4 sixes including some brilliant strokes against the likes of R Ashwin and Amit Mishra.
“Very tough, very tough because you know the ideal is such that the fans are very, very demanding. They don’t expect you to fail, they want to succeed in every game. Raina would have felt the pressure when he came back. That’s why he started off slowly. He was pretty much scoring at a run-a-ball and after that he took off,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
“Suresh Raina, well played. What a comeback in CSK colours,” he added.

Not many would have expected Raina to hit the ground running in his first game for CSK after a gap of two years but the left-hander looked in great touch and displayed his class with a fine knock. He added a 53-run stand for the third wicket with Moeen Ali (36) after CSK had lost both openers Faf du Plessis (0) and Ruturaj Gaekwad (5) inside 7 runs.
Gavaskar was left in awe of Raina’s heroics and lauded him for his amazing comeback.
