Rohit Sharma was happy and relieved at the same time as Mumbai Indians pulled off victory from the jaws of defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders to get off the mark in IPL 2021 on Tuesday.
Kolkata were cruising at one stage at 104 for 2 during their 153-run chase when Rahul Chahar triggered a dramatic collapse in the middle overs. KKR were eventually stopped at 142 for 7 in 20 overs with Chahar bagged 4 wickets for 27 runs from his 4 overs.
Trent Boult and Krunal Pandya also played their part with the ball. Boult defended 13 runs in the last over by giving away just 4 runs and picked 2 wickets while Krunal got 1 wicket for 13 runs from his 4 overs.
“It was a great fightback considering where the game was while they were batting. Anyone who came to bowl at different stages wanted to put their hands up and do something for the team. We can take a lot of confidence from this game. There were lots of positives,” Rohit Sharma said after the match.
“The way KKR started, they batted brilliantly in the first six overs. But once the powerplay was gone, the way Rahul came and got wickets was crucial. And Krunal at the end was also crucial. I can praise all the bowlers, honestly. Good signs for the team moving forward.”
Rohit also acknowledged the fact that their batting performance was below-par in this game. MI got bowled out for 152 in 20 overs with just Suryakumar Yadav (56) and Rohit (40) making significant scores while the rest flopped.
Mumbai climbed to the second spot on the table with their first win from 2 games while KKR dropped to 5th. MI will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the same venue on April 17 while KKR will lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 18.
