Indian Premier League (IPL) defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) got back to winning ways as Rohit Sharma and his men thrashed Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to win their third match of the 14th edition. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has struggled to pick wickets this season, bowled another economical spell against Sanju Samson & Co. which earned him praise from former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan.
Bumrah, who has 5 wickets to his name from 6 matches this year, conceded just 15 runs in 4 overs against RR and bagged the wicket of Shivam Dube. Analysing Bumrah’s performance, Pathan called him a ‘breakthrough app’.
“He (Jasprit Bumrah) is like a breakthrough app. Whenever you want a wicket, you open the app, if you don’t get wickets, he won’t go for any runs. That’s what you saw today, he has been doing that since his first IPL for the Mumbai Indians,” Pathan told Star Sports.
Thanks to Bumrah’s spell, MI restricted Rajasthan to 171 in the first innings and then successfully chased down the target in 18.3 overs.
On the other hand, legendary Australian cricketer Brett Lee also heaped praise upon Bumrah saying not many bowlers in world cricket could do what Bumrah does with the cricket ball.
“He has all the class and firepower in his armoury. He has got a different action that makes it difficult for the batsmen. And the control over the length and lines is brilliant. The length around the yorker area is a very high percentage. Not many bowlers can pull that off what Bumrah does,” Lee said on Star Sports.
It was a much-needed win for Mumbai – who had suffered two successive losses against Punjab Kings (PKBS) and Delhi Capitals (DC). The five-time IPL champions have now moved to the fourth spot in the points table and will next take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 1.
After playing their first five matches in Chennai – which proved to be a difficult track, Rohit said his team was positive ahead of the match against the Royals in Delhi.
