Inside Story

Delay in Allowances Angers SLC staff

Written by N Krishnamurthy

Used to of getting perks in advance over the years, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) staff members are complaining about the non payment of daily allowance for the ongoing Bangladesh test series. After a high-scoring first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh ended in a draw on a rain-marred Day 5, the host is on driver seat to win the second test on the final day in Pallekele.

According to sources, present management committee treasurer Sujeewa Mudalige barely come at Mitland Place and has not signed the cheques as yet. As a result, board employees who are on match duty in Pallekele are yet to get per diem for the series. Mudalige is also the chairman of The PricewaterhouseCoopers company (which do SLC audits).

“As the management committee is there only for few weeks, Mudalige usually comes at board office only for meetings. It’s understandable that he is extra-cautious in releasing funds, as Professor Arjuna de Silva led committee is comprised of well reputed people. But it would be great if committee thinks of lower grade employees particularly” a SLC Insider told Cricket Age.

In meantime, board notorious Head of admin Aruna de Silva and marketing department employee Melani are deliberately staying in Pallekele, just to claim daily allowances.

“Being the head of admin, he must be stayed at Maitland Place, but just to claim allowance, he goes for outstation matches. Melani too went to Pallekele along with her family, which is ridiculous. As usually, CEO Ashley de Silva  turn a blind eye these malpractices” the SLC Insider added.
