One of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, Dale Steyn provided an assessment of the Indian pace attack ahead of their Test series against England that gets underway next month. India will play a five-match Test series against Joe Root & Co. looking to get their fresh World Test Championship (WTC) campaign off the mark in style. India made it to the final of the inaugural edition and will be hoping to continue their stellar run in the second edition of the competition.
India currently have one of the best pace attacks in the world in Test cricket consisting of the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj among others. Steyn spoke about Siraj’s rise in international cricket and said he always knew the speedster was destined to have a great Test career.
Siraj made his Test debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 against Australia last year and quickly went on to impress with his skills. He picked up 12 wickets in the series to finish as the highest wicket-taker for India and has not looked back since. The young pacer is expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming Test series against England.
Steyn lauded Siraj for bringing in a good attitude to the game and said he is someone who can get in the face of the opponent batsmen which might work in India’s favour in England.
“I think he (Mohammed Siraj) brings a good attitude to the game. That’s another thing we tend to forget when you’re playing in English conditions. It’s not just about where you put the ball but also the attitude you bring, getting in people’s faces, making them play shots they don’t particularly want to play – I think Siraj is somebody who can do that. I saw parts of that little bit of fight when he played in Australia, and I immediately knew he was going to have a good Test career. Don’t forget about the attitude of a fast bowler too,” Steyn wrote in his column for ESPN Cricinfo.
