The Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) plan to reach UAE tomorrow (August 13) could be delayed by a day or so as the franchise hasn’t received permission to land there. The likes of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa, Ruturaj Gaikwad and others have reached Chennai and are scheduled to leave for UAE soon.
Speaking to Insidesport.co, Kasi Vishwanathan, CSK’s CEO revealed that the franchise hasn’t yet got the permission and that they are in touch with the BCCI.
“We have not got permissions as yet. We are continuously in touch with the BCCI and they are speaking to the authorities in UAE. We were earlier told permissions will come in by Wednesday but we have not recieved the same as yet. Let’s see if we recieve the permissions today”, Viswanathan said.
Last year as well, CSK was one of the teams which reached UAE early. The franchise had also conducted a camp in the city before leaving for UAE. The players will reach UAE tomorrow if they get official permission to land there.
With 5 wins from 7 matches, CSK are placed at the 2nd spot in the points table. The MS Dhoni-led side had kicked off the season with a defeat against Delhi Capitals before going on a five-match winning streak. The three-time champions lost to Mumbai Indians in their 7th fixture.
As per ANI, Mumbai Indians’ players will also land in UAE on Friday and the franchise is waiting for landing permission. There is no update regarding the other franchises but they are expected to ferry their players to UAE by the end of the month as the league kicks off on September 19.
The Indian players who are in England and overseas players will land in UAE directly. A report in PTI had recently suggested that no overseas would be asked to quarantine.
The 2nd phase of IPL 2021 will be played from September 19 to October 15. Following the T20 league, the BCCI will be hosting the T20 World Cup in Oman and UAE.
