Wasim Khan step down as CEO, PCB confirmed on Wednesday

Wasim Khan has resigned as Pakistan Cricket Board’s chief executive officer, four months before his three-year tenure was due to end. The PCB confirmed Wasim’s resignation in a brief statement on Wednesday, saying its board of governors will “take up the matter” in a meeting later in the day.

Wasim was appointed as chief executive by former chairman PCB Ehsan Mani in 2019. He had begun his stint as PCB’s CEO on a three-year contract in 2019, and as a result of his departure, the PCB chairman Ramiz Raja has called in the board of directors for a meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

“Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed Wasim Khan has tendered his resignation as Chief Executive. As is the process, the BoG will meet later today to consider the matter,” read an official PCB statement.

It’s the third notable resignation in the Pakistan cricket set-up since former captain and renowned commentator Ramiz Raja took over as the chairman of the PCB earlier this month, after the resignations of head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis.

Ramiz has brought in Australian Matthew Hayden as batting consultant and South African Vernon Philander as bowling consultant for next month’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
