The highly-anticipated Sri Lanka’s domestic cricket season, which was scheduled to kick off from October 20, is likely to be once again postponed by a week start, Cricket Age reliably learns.
The much hyped domestic season – consisting of limited overs and major club league tournament – was originally scheduled to be played in September. However due to grim Covid situation in the Island, it was postponed indefinitely.
“Government was likely to lift the lockdown curbs from October 1 and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) tournament committee had prepared a schedule to resume the domestic season. However, it seems that country will be returning to complete normalcy only by October 15. So, we have roughly discussed to start it from October 27 now, so membership clubs could get at least few days to prepare” a member of tournament committee told Cricket Age.
It was roprted earlier that the tournament committee is on the opinion to complete the 50 overs tournament before the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in November.
Recently, the SLC announced that 2nd edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), Sri Lanka’s top most domestic T20 tournament with an international flavor, will be held from 4th to 23rd December and will consist of 5 teams, with each having a 20-player squad. A squad will consist of 14 Local and 6 Overseas Players.
