Team India’s final group game against Namibia in the ongoing World Cup will be the end of an era for Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri as the Indian skipper and head coach will lead the former world champions for one last time in T20I cricket. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, who never shies away from speaking his mind, believes Kohli has a chance to take the initial steps towards ‘the inevitable’.

Kohli-led Team India will play Namibia in match No.42 of the ICC World T20 2021 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

“If Virat Kohli wants to sort of start a new trend, the inevitable future in T20 cricket, he could maybe offer the leadership straightaway to Rohit Sharma in this final game. Then Rohit Sharma may not be rested and play as captain,” Manjrekar said.

India opener Rohit has emerged as a front runner to replace Kohli as the new captain of the Indian side in the shortest format. According to multiple reports, Rohit is also a leading candidate to captain Team India in their first home assignment after the T20 World Cup.

While Kohli will relinquish the T20I captaincy after India’s final World Cup match against minnows Namibia on Monday, former Team India skipper and batting legend Rahul Dravid will replace Shastri as the new head coach of the Men In Blue.
