The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the ICC tournament schedule for the next decade. Taking to Twitter to share the schedule, revealing that India will host three of the major ICC tournaments in the upcoming decade. Moreover, the cricketing governing body announced the Champions Trophy will return in 2025 and that Pakistan will host it.
ICC announced the host countries of the four upcoming T20 World Cup editions, 2 50-over World Cups, and two Champions Trophy. CT will mark its return in Pakistan.
The USA and Namibia will host an ICC World Cup event for the first time. Whilst Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe have previously staged major events and will do so again over the next decade.
Pakistan, who are trying to get back to normalcy when it comes to hosting bilateral cricket, have been awarded the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Meanwhile, India will host the 2026 T20 World Cup along with Sri Lanka, the 2029 Champions Trophy and the 2031 50-over World Cup along with Bangladesh in the upcoming cycle. Notably, India are set to host the 2023 men’s Cricket World Cup.
USA and West Indies will co-host the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024 while Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy in 2025 as the ICC announced 8 new tournaments and 12 different host nations for the next decade.
The hosts were selected via a competitive bidding process overseen by a Board sub-committee chaired by Martin Snedden along with Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Skerritt. The ICC Board accepted the recommendations of the committee who conducted a thorough review of each bid along with ICC management. A similar process to identify the hosts for ICC Women’s and U19s events for the next cycle will be undertaken early next year.
