In his first press conference as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, legendary Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid made it clear that he wasn’t looking to have different teams for the three formats of the game. Players’ workload management has become one of the biggest talking points in world cricket and Dravid said that while it will be taken care of, he is not in the favour of different teams for different formats.
Dravid, who was addressing the press conference with newly appointed T20I coach Rohit Sharma, went on to add that he would like to see Rohit play in all three formats of the game. ” I am certainly not looking at different teams for the three formats. There are certain players who will play just one format or other. I would love someone like Rohit Sharma to play all three formats. We of course will prioritise players’ well being,” Dravid said.
When asked the difference between coaching at various levels, Dravid responded, “Certain coaching principles remain the same but (certain things) definitely need to change for different teams. Will take time for me to understand and mould myself to get the best out of players. That’s my philosophy.”
On New Zealand, Dravid said that their performances over the years have been exceptional. “It’s become fashionable to call them underdogs. Their performances have been exceptional. They are well planned, have beaten India in recent tournaments,” he said.
