The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, Sourav Ganguly has taken over as the chairman of the Cricket Committee of the International Cricket CouncilĀ (ICC). The role was previously held by Ganguly’s former teammate Anil Kumble. Kumble was given the responsibility by ICC back in 2012, when he replaced Clive Llyod from West Indies. In 2016, he was re-appointed for another term.
Further, Kumble was re-elected for his third and last three-year term in March 2019. After being the Cricket committee’s chairman for a period of nine years, he is now likely to pave way for Ganguly. According to reports, Ganguly is set to be given a promotion from an observer to being the chairman. The task of the ICC Cricket committee includes taking care of the rules and regulations of the game.
In another significant development, the Indian board is unlikely to get 10 percent tax exemptions from the central government. India are set to host three ICC events in the coming years, for which, the ICC will pay taxes to the Indian government. India will jointly host the 2026 T20 World Cup with Sri Lanka, the 2029 Champions Trophy, and the 2031 ODI World Cup with Bangladesh as co-hosts.
