Jasprit Bumrah on Wednesday expressed his happiness after he was retained by Mumbai Indians ahead of the mega auction for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Mumbai Indians, the five-time winners of the elusive IPL trophy, retained their captain Rohit Sharma, pacer Bumrah, veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard and Suryakumar Yadav.
Taking to Twitter, Bumrah shared two pictures of him donning the Mumbai Indians jersey – one from his debut season and the other from a photoshoot session ahead of IPL 2021. He captioned it, “The story continues @mipaltan.”
MI’s Director of Cricket Operations, Zaheer Khan, in conversation with Star Sports, explained that leadership qualities played a role in retaining the four players.
“If you look at the retention list of Mumbai Indians, you will notice that there are leaders in there who have performed consistently. Yes, we had to say goodbye to the other players with a very heavy heart. Overall, it was very difficult to make these decisions,” he explained.
With each franchise having a total salary cap of INR 90 crore available for the mega auction, teams were eligible to retain up to 4 players with a maximum of 3 Indians, 2 overseas players and 2 uncapped Indians.
