With Sourav Ganguly as BCCI President, Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the senior Men’s national team, and VVS Laxman’s recent appointment as the head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, the three most important jobs around Indian cricket are currently being held by players from Indian cricket’s ‘golden era.’
Even Anil Kumble had served as the head coach of the team for a year, meaning almost all stalwarts of the bygone era have made themselves available to serve the sport in some capacity since their retirement.
However, one name missing from that list is legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who has stayed away from an official role so far.
In an interview with Boria Majumdar on ‘Backstage with Boria’, Ganguly said, “Sachin is obviously a bit different. He doesn’t want to be involved in all this. I’m sure with Sachin’s involvement in Indian cricket in someway, it can’t be a better news than that. In what way that obviously needs to be worked out.”
“Because there is too much of conflict all around. Rightly or wrongly, anything and everything you do you have the word ‘conflict’ keeps jumping out of the window, some of which I find really really unrealistic. So you have to see the best way to keep the best talent involved in the game. And at some stage Sachin will also find a way to be involved in Indian cricket,” he added.
While Tendulkar has not taken a role with BCCI or the Indian cricket team, he has consistently been involved with his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) as a mentor since quitting the sport.
