SA vs IND 1st Test: Elgar is leading from front, we have to show belief – Rabada

Written by Rohit Pawar

South Africa will strategies overnight how to approach the fifth day of the first Test against India in centurion, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has said. The Proteas were left reeling at 94/4 by a fiery Indian pace attack led by Jasprit Bumrah as they have six wickets to guard on the final day.

Captain Dean Elgar held up one end with a stoic 52 off 122 balls and it looked like he might have nightwatchman Keshav Maharaj at the start of Day 5 but Bumrah put paid to those hopes when he got the latter with a typically accurate yorker for the final act of the day

“We have to show belief,” Rabada told reporters after the day’s play. “We will strategise overnight and work out how we want to approach this.

“Dean has done this countless times, where he shows fight when it is toughest. He will know his job is not over, he is leading from the front.”

Rabada and debutant Marcoo Jansen took four wickets each as South Africa dismissed India for 174 runs earlier in the day. The visitors were, however, looking to score quickly throughout the second session and took the lead beyond 300 before being all out.

The highest fourth innings score to win at Centurion Park is 251 for eight by England in 2000, an infamous Test where both teams agreed to forfeit an innings after rain to force a result.
