A meeting between George Stuarts Group Chairman Dilith Jayaweera and members of once prestigious Galle Cricket Club (CC) has sparked rumors in Sri Lanka Cricket fraternity.
According to sources, recently Galle CC Cricket secretary Dileepa Charles, along with coach Hasitha Rajapaksa and a former domestic player Ruwan Galappaththi, met Jayaweera, regarding an advertising board in front of the club.
However, after the meeting, many interesting developments unfolded!
According to sources, after the meeting, a top SLC official received a call, with a complaint of not providing practice facilities, including side wickets, to the Galle CC. Even the top SLC official was taken aback, as Galle CC official president is Kumara Samarasinghe! It has also learnt that Charles and others also secured two million grant for the advertising board.
According to sources, a particular camp at Galle CC wants Jayaweera to come forward for the club presidency in the next election. In past, Sri Lanka Cricket’s stalwarts like legendary Ana Punchihewa, Jayantha Dharmadasa and Thilanga Sumathipala have graced Galle CC president seat!
Notably, Jayaweera hails from Galle. Apart from George Stuarts, he also owns Cytrus Hotels Group and a Media group. George Stuarts is currently the travel partner of the SLC and is considered close to the ruling party.
