Players of prestigious Galle Cricket Club (CC) have still not received their ‘promised’ fees for the domestic Club Tournaments, Cricket Age reliably learns.
Last year, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) staged T20 Club Tournament, followed by 50 Overs Major Club tournament, which was played in October-November in hasty manner. It turned out a disaster for Galle CC as well, with 7 losses and no win.
According to sources, even though the SLC has released the 7.6 million tournament grant for the club long time ago, the Galle CC Players are still waiting for remaining ‘promised’ 25% amount to be paid.
“We don’t know the reason and are not properly informed even the reason for the delay. Our contracts says 100% payment for playing domestic – T20, 50 Overs and 3-day tournaments. So far, we have played T20 and 50 Overs tournaments. But, Instead of getting half of the payment, we have recieved only 25% payment. Now we are getting that we will be paid only 15% ” a prominent cricketer in Galle CC team told Cricket Age.
In another unfortunate scenario, Club’s website domain has also expired is available for sale, which is a shame for one of the oldest and most prominent club in the Island.
