The Galle Cricket Club (GCC) hierarchy has advertised for it’s team head coach post without taking the approval from the Executive Committee (ExCo), Cricket Age reliably learns.
At present, Hasitha Rajapaksa serves as Galle CC head coach. However, while he is overseeing his responsibility in the ongoing U23 Emerging tournament, the club officials have advertised for the post, in their hunt for new candidates.
“Approval was not taken from the ExCo before advertising for the post, which is against the club constitution” a club Insider told Cricket Age.
It has learned that Hasitha was on club’s top officials radar right after his meeting with Dilith Jayaweera, George Stuarts Group Chairman. In January, Cricket Age had published that Hasitha along with Galle CC Cricket secretary Dileepa Charles and a former domestic player Ruwan Galappaththi, met Jayaweera, regarding an advertising board in front of the club. Following the high profile meeting, a show cause notice has been sent to Galappaththi as well, in a misconduct issue.
Rumors are that Jayaweera will be contesting for the club president position in the upcoming election. Notably, Jayaweera hails from Galle. Apart from George Stuarts, he also owns Cytrus Hotels Group and a Media group. George Stuarts is currently the travel partner of the SLC and is considered close to the ruling party.
