Written by Rohit Pawar

The Galle Cricket Club (GCC) top brass is yet to pay the players fees for the ongoing U23 Emerging tournament, even after receiving the allotted funds from the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Cricket Age reliably learns.

Accusations are that Instead of paying players fees, Club officials have used the money for making for a newly built Coffee Shop and purchasing generator!

The Major Club U23 Emerging tournament is currently underway, featuring all 26 domestic clubs in the competition.

“We released the funds and all clubs have received. Majority of clubs have already paid match fees to the players” a top SLC official told Cricket Age.

Holding back players fees in not new at Galle CC. On 26th January, Cricket Age had published that even though the SLC had released the 7.6 million tournament grant for the club long time ago, the Galle CC Players are still waiting for remaining ‘promised’ 25% amount to be paid for the T20 Club Tournament, followed by 50 Overs Major Club tournament last year, which was played in October-November in hasty manner. For the ongoing U23 Emerging tournament also the situation remains the same!

“Again, we are waiting for the match fees. No surprise that, in this scenario,  in last few domestic tournaments the team has performed poorly” one of the senior cricketer of the team told Cricket Age.
