In news that will come as a grave concern for both the England cricket team and Mumbai Indians (MI), Jofra Archer has suffered another major setback in his road to recovery from injury. In an announcement made by the England Cricket Board (ECB) on Thursday, Archer was diagnosed with a lower back stress fracture earlier this week and will the miss the entire 2022 English home summer.
“No timeframe has been set for his return. A management plan will be determined following further specialist opinion over the coming days,” the statement issued by the ECB stated. Archer was set to make his comeback for Sussex vs Glamorgan on May 26 in the T20 Blast but he will have to wait a few more months before taking the field again.
Archer last played for England in a T20I vs India on March 18 last year at Ahmedabad before he had to undergo two operations on his elbow. Archer has since then missed the 2021 and 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), England’s marquee home series vs India, the 2021 T2oI World Cup and the Ashes.
England have a busy home season coming up as they are set to host New Zealand, India, and South Africa across all three formats over the next few months. It was hoped that Archer will make his comeback during this period and be fit in time for the 2022 T20 World Cup that is scheduled to take place in Australia in October-November.
