Delhi Capitals’ (DC) inconsistent run mirrors skipper Rishabh Pant’s form in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It hasn’t been bad but it hasn’t been great either and when you look at it, it feels underwhelming, it is applicable for both DC and Pant’s form.
Pant has gotten starts, and has scored 40-odd runs in a couple of matches, however, hasn’t gone on to score big and that has been a big issue for the Delhi side, especially in the middle overs. Apart from Mitchell Marsh’s two fifties in the last two games and Rovman Powell’s fifty in one game, the middle order has struggled.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra said that Pant needs to keep his ego aside and pace his innings according to the situation rather than going after the bowlers recklessly, which almost cost them the game against Punjab Kings.
Speaking on his Youtube channel, Chopra said, “Rishabh Pant needs to keep his ego aside and look at the bigger picture. He is a much more capable player than his performances have suggested so far. Whenever Delhi have won, his average hasn’t been great. So there hasn’t been a match-winning contribution.”
In terms of his strike rate, Pant has had the best year since 2019, however, his falure to kick on and get a big one could hurt Delhi’s playoffs chances if that form does continue against Mumbai Indians. Pant has struck at 157 while averaging 30 in 13 games till now.
