AB de Villiers confirms participation in IPL 2023 with RCB in ‘some capacity’

South African superstar AB de Villiers has been a Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) legend in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and it was an emotional decision for him and the fans after he decided to retire from all forms of the game after the 15th edition of the cash-rich league.

De Villiers formed almost an unbreakable bond with the franchise, its fans and the city of Bangalore in his 11 seasons with the Men in Red. RCB may have found his replacement in form of Dinesh Karthik as a finisher, however, the most loyal of fans are certainly missing seeing him in red and gold. However, it may not be too long before he is seen in RCB colours again.

With COVID-19 on its last legs, there’s every possibility that IPL might return to its home and away format next year and De Villiers couldn’t wait to return to Bengaluru, which for him has become his second home.

“I have heard a little bird tweeting, saying that there might be some games in Bangalore. So I would love to return to my second hometown and watch the full capacity stadium there at the Chinnaswamy again. I would love to return, I am looking forward to it,” the 38-year old added.
