The auction for media rights for 5 seasons (2023-2027) of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for A and B packages has been completed. Package A for TV rights has been bagged by a broadcaster for INR 57.5 crore per match and Package B for Digital rights has been lapped up for INR 50 crore by another.
Two different entities have won the auction for TV and Digital rights, and the names will only be disclosed on Tuesday.
The entity with the TV rights had challenged for the Digital rights as well when bids were closed for the latter at INR 48 crore. However, the second entity prevailed and there will be two different broadcasters for the next five years. As it stands, with 107.5 crores per match, the rights for packages A and B sit at a total of INR 44,075 crore for 5 years. The TV rights were purchased for Rs. 23,575 crores. while the digital have gone for a value of 20,500 crores.
Six organisations were in the fray for the TV and Digital rights while four more parties were interested in only the digital rights. However, four each were left before going into the auction. Viacom18 JV (Joint Venture) with Lupa Systems (Uday Shankar and James Murdoch), Walt Disney (Star), Zee, and Sony (both India media and digital rights), Times Internet, Fan Code, FunAsia, and Dream11 (only digital rights).
