Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly on Thursday, July 21 said that the Asia Cup T20 tournament will be hosted by the UAE in August-September. The change in venue comes after Sri Lanka expressed its inability to host the multi-national T20 cricket tournament due to the ongoing political and economic crisis in the island nation.
“Asia Cup will be in UAE, as it is the only place where there won’t be rains,” Ganguly told reporters in Mumbai after BCCI’s Apex Council meeting here.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Wednesday that the board will not be in a position to host the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup.
Sri Lanka hosted Australia in a full-fledged white-ball and Test series after IPL 2022 and are currently playing a 2-match Test series against Pakistan. Notably, the second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan was shifted from Colombo to Galle due to the crisis. India women’s cricket team also played white-ball series in the island nation earlier this month.
Asia Cup is slated to be held from August 27 to September 11 and will be played in the T20 format.
