Even though Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) president Shammi Silva was trying his best to keep Asia Cup In the Island till Yesterday night, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is likely to officially announce UAE as host of this year edition, Cricket Age reliably learns.
The 6-nation tournament was originally scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka. However, political unrest and fuel crisis forced ACC to look for other host.
Cricket Age understands that Shammi, who is in UK to attend the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting, tried to convince governing body’s top guns to play the tournament in Sri Lanka.
However, due to the fuel crisis especially, Broadcasters as well as majority of Sponsors are reluctant to agree for playing the tournament in the Island.
The 15th edition of the tournament will be played from August 27 to September 11.
Notably, even amidst the series of crisis in the country, SLC stood tall and managed to successfully play bilateral home series against Australia and Pakistan.
