Ravindra Jadeja surpassed former pacer Irfan Pathan to become India’s highest wicket-taker in the history of the Asia Cup tournament. Jadeja achieved this feat during his side’s Group A tie against Hong Kong in Dubai in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.
Jadeja took four wickets in his first Asia Cup back in 2010, followed by one in 2012, and seven scalps in the 2014 edition of the tournament. Then, in the 2016 edition of the tournament, he took three wickets, followed by seven scalps in the 2018 Asia Cup. In the ongoing Asia Cup, he has taken one wicket till now. While Pathan has taken all wickets in the ODI format, Jadeja’s wickets have come in ODI and T20Is.
The most successful bowlers in the history of the Asia Cup are Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (30), Lasith Malinga (29), Ajantha Mendis (26) and Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal (25). Jadeja has taken 23 wickets across six Asia Cup tournaments held from 2010 to 2022.
Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav hit a blistering unbeaten 68 and Virat Kohli equaled the record of most half centuries in T20 internationals as India romped to a 40-run victory over underdog Hong Kong in the Asia Cup on Wednesday. The victory lifted India to the Super 4 stage by finishing first in Group A after it also beat archrival Pakistan in its first match last Sunday.
