Team was clinical in win over Australia: Kane Williamson

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has said the team was clinical in their win over Australia. The Kiwis got off to a winning start in the Super-12 stage by defeating holders Australia by 89 runs in Sydney.

Speaking after the game, Williamson said players in the team knew their roles and were very clinical in their approach, as New Zealand registered their first-ever T20I win on Australian soil.

“Everyone knew their roles in this team, we knew about the quality of their bowling (Australia’s), took the game deep and we were very clinical in what we needed to do,” said Williamson.

The New Zealand skipper went on to say that it was an outstanding day for the Kiwis, insisting that openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway set the tone early on in the match.

“It was one of those days, an outstanding day, the openers set the tone, lots of contributions right through the batting and that was a very good score on this pitch. The bowlers then did well and were well supported in the field,” Williamson added.

New Zealand will now lock horns against Afghanistan in their next Super-12 match, while Australia will face Sri Lanka in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
