India register their 4th highest score in ODIs after 409 for 8 in 3rd ODI

Flamboyant opener Ishan Kishan smashed an incredible double century to help India post a mammoth 409/8 in 50 overs against Bangladesh in third ODI at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram. Kishan got able support from batting maverick Virat Kohli who also smashed his 72nd ODI century to silence his critics. The 24-year-old got a chance in the XI after Rohit Sharma was ruled out after sustaining a thumb injury and he made it count in possibly the best way possible.

India also notched their second-highest team total overseas, with their highest being 413 for five against Bermuda back in 2007 in the 50-over World Cup match at Port of Spain. It also happened to be the sixth time that India breached the 400-run mark in ODIs.

India’s highest score in ODIs remains to be 418 for five against the West Indies back in December 2011 in Indore. They had the chance of breaking the 11-year-old record, but a flurry of wickets in the death overs didn’t allow them to create a new record.

On Saturday, Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli stole the show as they stitched together a 290-run stand for the second wicket after India lost the early wicket of Shikhar Dhawan to off-break bowler Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
