A gazette notification, published by Sports Ministry, prevents Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) incumbent President Shammi Silva from getting another (3rd) term, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.
Apart from this significant step, Sports Ministry is likely to bring some more regulations, which will be effectively knocking out several high profile office bearers of Maitland Place from administrative roles!
To reveal all these developments, Island’s Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe is scheduled to held a press conference today (December 16).
Cricket Age understands that, as per said gazette notification, the president of the Cricket Board won’t be allowed to continue beyond two terms!
Other regulations might be in effect are – a maximum seven year term as well as 70 year age criteria for Maitland Place office bearers!
If it happens Indeed, then not only Shammi, but two vice presidents – Jayantha Dharmadasa and Ravin Wickramaratne and Secretary Mohan de Silva will also be knocked out of the Cricket politics!
Dharmadasa and Mohan are above 70, while Ravin has already served Cricket Board for 6 years continuesly (as assistant secretary and vice president).
Shammi Silva’s tenure will, anyway, be remembered a successful one. Shammi’s tenure restored organization’s reputation. Under his wings, Sri Lanka survived global Pandemic, as his administration backed and supported domestic players, coaches and clubs alike and successfully relaunched Lanka Premier League (LPL). Financially too, he transformed SLC as a profitable institution, with a surplus of staggering USD 40 Million at present!
