Ravichandran Ashwin said that India trusted its defence despite Bangladesh putting the visitors under a lot of pressure in the second Test in Mirpur.
Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer stitched a solid 71-run unbeaten partnership to help India beat Bangladesh by three wickets and complete the Test series clean sweep on Christmas.
“Game was on the line. I thought Bangladesh played really well. The game had to be won the hard way. In these situations, sometimes you feel you need to hit your way. They bowled well,” Ashwin said at the post-match press conference.
Ashwin further said that the ball made a difference in the second Test match. When Ashwin joined Shreyas Iyer in the middle, India were seven down as Mehidy Hasan Miraz rattled India’s top order to complete his five-wicket haul.
“But we needed to trust our defence. I wanted to get in and support Shreyas. Pitches were good, they were a touch slow. But the ball made a difference. The hosts put us under a lot of pressure. Good performances as well,” Ashwin said.
With the win, India have strengthened their second position in the World Test Championship (WTC) table. India have 58.93 points and only sit behind Australia (76.92).
