Pakistan cricket board chairman Najam Sethi has heaped praise on Babar Azam and called him the star of the country while answering a question about his future as the captain of the team.
Azam’s tenure as captain of the Pakistan team came under serious scrutiny after England defeated them 3-0 in the recently-concluded Test series. While his batting form didn’t dip, many of the 28-year-old’s decisions were criticized.
As quoted by Hindustan Times, Sethi said the skipper is the star of the Pakistan team and without him the squad will be without its son of the soil. Sethi went on to say that Azam is the hearts of the fans and will always remain there.
“Babar Azam is the star of Pakistan. Without him, the Pakistan team would be without its son of the soil. He is in our hearts and will always remain there.”
When asked about having separate captains for different formats, the PCB chairman said that he would listen to the advice and recommendation of the people he will appoint.
“I will listen to advice and recommendations from the people I appoint as I don’t make cricketing decisions by myself,” said Sethi.
